This Philly Cheese Steak Crescent recipe brings together the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak wrapped in golden, flaky crescent roll dough. Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 450 grams beef steak strips
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Assembly

  • 1 cup (approximately 100 grams) provolone cheese, grated
  • 2 cans crescent roll dough
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for optional garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 190°C and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the crescent roll ring.
  2. Sauté vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the vegetables soften and lightly caramelize.
  3. Cook beef: Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the beef steak strips to the other side. Season the beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Sear the beef for 3 to 5 minutes until browned and cooked through. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and mix well with the vegetables.
  4. Arrange dough: On the prepared baking sheet, arrange the crescent roll dough triangles in a circular pattern with the wide ends overlapping to form a ring and the points facing outward.
  5. Add filling and cheese: Spoon the steak and vegetable mixture evenly around the base of the dough ring. Sprinkle the grated provolone cheese evenly over the filling.
  6. Seal crescent ring: Fold the pointed tips of the dough triangles over the filling and tuck them underneath the ring to seal it tightly.
  7. Bake: Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 25 minutes until the crescent dough is golden brown and fully cooked.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and let rest briefly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, slice into portions, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced skirt or ribeye steak strips for the best texture and flavor.
  • Substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or cheddar if preferred.
  • Worcestershire sauce adds depth but you can omit it for a milder flavor.
  • Make sure to tuck dough points well to prevent filling leakage during baking.
  • For a spicier variation, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of cayenne pepper to the filling.
