Ingredients

Beef Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Lemon Garlic Yogurt Sauce

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, grated or minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste

For Serving

  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Sauté the onion: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and add the chopped onion. Cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  2. Add garlic: Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Cook the beef: Add ground beef along with cumin, oregano, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and fully cooked through, about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Prepare the yogurt sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together plain Greek yogurt, lemon juice, grated garlic, olive oil, and salt until smooth and well combined.
  5. Warm the pita breads: Slightly warm the pita breads in a dry skillet or microwave until soft and pliable.
  6. Assemble the pitas: Fill each warm pita bread with a generous portion of the cooked beef mixture, followed by chopped tomatoes, sliced cucumber, and fresh parsley.
  7. Serve: Drizzle the lemon garlic yogurt sauce generously over the fillings and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the beef seasoning.
  • Use whole wheat pita breads for a healthier alternative.
  • Leftover beef filling can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently before serving.
  • For extra freshness, add sliced red onion or crumbled feta cheese inside the pita.
