These crispy halloumi and feta bites paired with a sweet and spicy hot honey cranberry dip make a delightful appetizer or snack. The salty, golden-fried cheeses contrast beautifully with the tangy, warm cranberry sauce, creating a perfect balance of flavors enhanced by hints of smoked paprika and chili flakes.

Ingredients

Cheese Bites

  • 200 g halloumi cheese, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 150 g feta cheese, cut into small cubes
  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil, for frying
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper

Hot Honey Cranberry Dip

  • ½ cup cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • ½ tsp chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp water
  • ½ tsp orange zest (optional)

Garnish

  • Fresh thyme or parsley
  • Optional: sesame seeds or crushed pistachios

Instructions

  1. Preheat the skillet: Place a skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil, warming it until shimmering but not smoking.
  2. Fry the cheese bites: Add the halloumi and feta cubes to the skillet, frying for 2–3 minutes per side. Fry until they develop a golden, crispy crust.
  3. Season while cooking: Sprinkle the smoked paprika and freshly cracked black pepper over the cheese as it cooks to infuse it with smoky and peppery notes.
  4. Drain the cheese: Remove the crispy cheese bites from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
  5. Prepare the hot honey cranberry dip: In a small saucepan, combine cranberries, honey, water, chili flakes, and orange zest. Simmer over low heat for 4–5 minutes until the cranberries soften and the mixture becomes glossy and syrupy.
  6. Serve: Arrange the cheese bites on a serving plate alongside the hot honey cranberry dip.
  7. Garnish: Sprinkle fresh thyme or parsley on top and optionally add sesame seeds or crushed pistachios for extra texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen cranberries for the dip, but thaw frozen cranberries before cooking.
  • Adjust the chili flakes in the dip to control the level of heat to your preference.
  • For a nuttier touch, sprinkle sesame seeds or crushed pistachios as garnish.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the crispy texture of the cheese bites.
  • The smoked paprika is optional but adds a lovely depth of flavor.
