These Churro Bites with Chocolate Sauce are crispy, cinnamon-sugar coated fried dough balls served warm with a rich chocolate dipping sauce. Perfect for a delicious snack or dessert that captures the classic churro flavors in a bite-sized form.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for coating)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (plus extra for coating)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Frying

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Dipping Sauce

  • 1/2 cup chocolate sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dry Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Make the Dough: In a saucepan over low heat, melt unsalted butter and add water. Once warmed, remove from heat and combine this liquid with the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Form Dough Balls: Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, scoop the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and set aside on a plate.
  4. Heat Oil for Frying: In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil to approximately 350°F (175°C). It's important to maintain this temperature for even frying.
  5. Fry Churro Bites: Fry the dough balls in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook each side for about two minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Drain and Coat: Remove the fried churro bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While still warm, toss them in a mixture of additional granulated sugar and ground cinnamon to coat evenly.
  7. Serve: Arrange the churro bites on a serving plate and serve warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra crispy bites, double fry them by frying once until lightly golden, draining, then frying again until golden brown.
  • You can make homemade chocolate sauce by melting chocolate with cream or milk for a richer dip.
  • Ensure oil temperature stays consistent at 350°F to avoid greasy churro bites.
  • These churro bites are best enjoyed fresh and warm for the best taste and texture.
