Ingredients

Cheese Filling

  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Breading and Dipping

  • 6 slices white bread
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed Nacho Cheese Doritos

Frying

  • Oil for frying (about 3 cups, for deep frying)

Instructions

  1. Flatten the bread: Using a rolling pin, flatten the white bread slices until they are thin and pliable, which makes them easier to fold and ensures an even crust when fried.
  2. Add cheese filling: Place a mixture of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese in the center of each flattened bread slice to create the gooey cheese center.
  3. Form triangles and seal: Fold each slice into a triangle shape, pressing the edges firmly to seal. Dab the edges with a little water if needed to help them stick and prevent cheese from leaking out during frying.
  4. Freeze to firm up: Arrange the sealed triangles on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes. This step helps the bread and cheese hold their shape during the coating and frying process.
  5. Prepare breading stations: Set up three bowls – one with flour, one with eggs whisked together with milk, and one with crushed Nacho Cheese Doritos for coating.
  6. First breading layer: Coat each frozen triangle in the flour, then dip into the egg wash, and finally press into the crushed Doritos crumbs to cover completely.
  7. Repeat breading for extra crunch: For an extra crispy exterior, dip the coated triangles once more into the egg wash and again into the Doritos crumbs.
  8. Heat oil and fry: Heat about 3 cups of oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry 2 to 3 triangles at a time for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until they are a golden brown color.
  9. Drain and serve: Remove the fried triangles using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately while hot, optionally with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing the stuffed bread triangles before breading and frying helps them hold their shape better and prevents the cheese from leaking out.
  • Use fresh oil heated to the right temperature to avoid greasy or soggy results.
  • Try serving with salsa, ranch dressing, or sour cream for a tasty dip.
  • You can experiment with different cheese combinations or add jalapeños inside for extra spice.
  • For a lighter option, consider baking instead of deep-frying, though the crunchiness won’t be quite the same.
